High-Temperature O-Rings
Rocket Seals distributes high-temperature products including O-rings and seals. Choosing the correct high-temperature O-ring or high-temperature seal is critical to prevent seal failure in high-temperature applications.
Rocket Seals will work with you to weigh the pros and cons of each of our high-temperature O-rings or seals to determine which is the correct material for your application.
Benefits and Characteristics of High Temperature O-rings & Seals
High-temperature O-rings and high-temperature seals are typically able to withstand temperatures ranging from 250°F to 450°F. Rocket Seals distributes O-rings and seals in a variety of materials that can be used in high-temperature applications. These include: Viton™, Silicone, HNBR, PTFE, Kalrez®, Chemraz®, or other FFKM compounds.
Viton™
Viton™ seals and O-rings retain their flexibility, shape, and seal when exposed to chemicals and high temperatures which make them great components to use in harsh environments. Viton™ is a fluoropolymer elastomer and synthetic rubber compound trademarked by DuPont.
Silicone
Silicone includes a large group of materials in which vinyl-methyl-silicone (VMQ) is often the central ingredient. Silicones are excellent seal materials for extreme temperatures in static applications. Silicone is also specified for applications involving ozone and UV radiation. Most silicone is red or orange.
HNBR
Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR) is a synthetic polymer that is obtained by saturating the double bonds of nitrile’s butadiene segments with hydrogen. It is known for its physical strength and resistance to heat, oil, and chemicals.
PTFE
PTFE is also known as Teflon®. Discovered in 1938, Teflon® is a hard plastic that must be laid in place because it is not stretchable. PTFE maintains strength and toughness at low temperatures down to -250° F and is good up to 450° F.
Kalrez®
Kalrez® is a DuPont trademark. It is resistant to over 1,800 different harsh chemicals while offering the high-temperature stability of Teflon®. The temperature range for these compounds is usually -4°F to 615°F.
Chemraz®
Chemraz® is the Green Tweed version of Kalrez®. It is also a member of the perfluoroelastomer polymer family Simriz®. Chemraz® has a high heat, chemical and solvent resistance. Its defining properties are exceptional resistance to steam and performance in low-temperature environments, as well as availability.
