Wiper Seals Applications
Wiper seals, also known as excluders or scrapers, work in conjunction with the rod seals and provide the first line of defense in protecting hydraulic fluid power and pneumatic systems and keeping them free from dirt, mud, water and other contaminants.
The Metal Clad (MC) wiper is made from high-quality steel of the proper wall thickness, which provides adequate hoop strength for the various diameters. And the press-fit design reduces machining time in the manufacture of the cylinders. Unlike the Snap In Wiper that fits in a gland inside the cylinder, the Metal Clad Wiper is press fit into the end of the cylinder.
Snap In wiper seals are designed without any metal component and are easy to install without any special equipment. The snap In wiper varies from the metal clad wiper in that it fits in a gland in the cylinder, where the metal clad wiper fits in the end of the cylinder.
Wear rings help keep the piston centered, which allows for even wear and pressure distribution on the seals. Wear rings are used in both piston and rod applications. Wear rings are available in butt cut, angle cut, and step cut styles.
Piston cups are used on piston heads, plungers or rams in pneumatic or hydraulic applications. They are commonly used because of their superior service life, universal acceptance, and ultimately their economic cost.
A mechanical seal is simply a method of containing fluid within a vessel (typically pumps, mixers, etc.) where a rotating shaft passes through a stationary housing or occasionally, where the housing rotates around the shaft. The mechanical seal itself is the interface between the static and rotary portions of the seal.
